Different employers will have different requirements. There is a big difference in the requirements of a small family business, compared to a big Corporate, from Consulting Engineers to Contractors.
Your responsibility is to understand the needs of those different employers: what a company does, their background, what they are looking for. You need to demonstrate and reinforce the value to the organization that you bring. If you can’t articulate how you have helped companies, the employer isn’t going to be buying what you are selling.
16 THINGS HARDHAT PROFESSIONALS SHOULD CONSIDER WHEN YOU ARE INVITED FOR AN INTERVIEW:
- The most important aspect is: BE ON TIME! I would even suggest being at least 15 minutes early, giving you time to calm down and gather yourself. This already speaks of your eagerness to work, punctuality, planning ability and time management, respect for other people and understanding deadlines.
- Dress appropriately (Do not wear a suit if you are interviewing for a Foreman position)
- Don’t bring food or drinks to the interview and DO NOT CHEW BUBBLEGUM
- While waiting for the interview, look busy and don’t sleep or slouch
